The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) is teaming up with Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), the American College of Physicians (ACP), and the Society of Ultrasound in Medical Education (SUSME) to present the Point-of-Care & General Medicine Ultrasound Course. This course also meets the elective requirement for the Society of Hospital Medicine’s (SHM) Point-of-Care Ultrasound Certificate of Completion (COC).

This course is designed to cover point-of-care ultrasound for generalists. Live demonstrations, simulations, and didactic lectures will be used to provide a comprehensive and in-depth look at how and where medical ultrasound can effectively be used in point-of-care and general medicine settings.

We will ensure that you come away from the course with a well-founded grounding in the basic techniques, including focused cardiac, lung, abdomen, DVT, and procedural ultrasound, and that these techniques lay the foundation for a safe and effective ultrasound practice.

New for 2019 - Breakouts on Sunday

When the main course ends, the learning doesn’t have to. Include one of these afternoon breakouts with your registration to get a more intimate hands-on experience:

  • Ultrasound-guided Procedures breakout session: To help you better gain the hands-on tasks associated with ultrasound-guided procedures, we’ve broken this section out into 2 hours on its own. This allows 2:1 learner to faculty/ultrasound machine/needle/task trainer so you can get in many good reps for needle guidance for central and peripheral catheter insertion, in addition to thoracentesis and paracentesis.
    • Sunday, July 21, from 1 pm–3 pm
  • Musculoskeletal Ultrasound breakout session: Two hours of alternating didactics and hands-on MSK ultrasound education covering the basic concepts, followed by ultrasound assessment of knee and shoulder joints.
    • Sunday, July 21, from 1 pm–3 pm

Once again, we will also offer an intimate hands-on cardiac scanning session on Monday, July 22, from 8 am–12:30 pm. Additional fee applies.
